Accessibility statement

We want anyone to be able to find a flat to rent, including with a keyboard, a screen reader or enlarged text. This statement is voluntary: it says what the site supports, how we check it and what isn't good enough yet.

Our aim and how we check

We aim for level AA of WCAG 2.1. The main pages, including an open listing, are checked automatically with axe on every change, at phone and desktop widths. Automated checks don't catch everything, so we also test the key tasks with the keyboard.

What the site supports

  • Keyboard: everything works with the keyboard. On a computer, shortcuts speed up searching (/ to search, J and K to move between listings, ? for the list of shortcuts, Ctrl or ⌘ + K to jump anywhere), and you can switch the single-key shortcuts off.
  • Reduced motion: if you turn it on in your device settings, or choose “Less motion” in the page footer, animations stop.
  • Text size: in the page footer you can choose larger text for the whole site (Normal, Larger, Largest); it's remembered on this device only.
  • Dark mode follows your device setting, and you can choose it yourself.
  • Read aloud: you can listen to the guides in your device's voice, paragraph by paragraph.
  • Table view: on a computer you can see search results as a table with sortable headers.
  • Charts in the data stories come with a table for screen readers.
  • When a listing doesn't state something, screen readers say “not stated”, not a blank or a dash.
  • Without JavaScript: search, filters, calculators and forms work as ordinary forms.

What doesn't work well yet

  • We don't describe what agency listing photos show: their description gives only the flat's basic facts (rooms, size, floor).
  • The neighbourhood map works better with a mouse or touch than with the keyboard. The same data is available as the list of neighbourhoods and in the search results, and when the map opens above the results (always on phones), a list of the areas visible on it, with their listing counts, sits underneath.
  • “Quick review” on phones works best by touch; every gesture also has a button.

Tell us

If there's something on the site you can't use, write to info@najamstanova.com and tell us which page and which device or screen reader. We'll try to fix it, and fixes are listed on What's new.
