In person, at the police administration or station for the new address, with the landlord's consent or a lease certified by a notary. A permanent address can't be registered online. The old address is deregistered automatically. The fine for registering late is 60 to 660 €.

A change of permanent address, even within Zagreb, makes the old ID card invalid, and the address on the chip can't simply be updated. You apply in person at the police: a regular card costs 13.27 € and is made within 30 days at most; a faster one 25.88 €, an urgent one 66.36 €. Children who have an ID card need a new one too. The fine is 390 to 590 €.

If you pay the fee, tell HRT your new address within 15 days: the form for changing your details (reason “Preseljenje”), an email to pristojba.gradjani@hrt.hr, or post. If you move into a household that already pays, cancel your own payment (HRT's page on cancelling the fee). If your new household has a TV or radio for the first time, you register the receiver within 30 days; the fine is 130 €.

According to HZZO, the change of address is requested by you, at the nearest regional office, or by your employer through e-Zdravstveno. After that you can print your supplementary insurance policy with the new address.
When you move from another town, you can change your family doctor, dentist, gynaecologist or paediatrician before a year has passed since your last choice; within the same city the usual one year applies. Change it through e-Građani (e-HZZO) or at the new practice. A doctor outside your place of residence doesn't make home visits.
If the bills should be in your name, you change the user together with the owner. What each bill needs is in the guide.
Ask your operator to move the existing line. If the operator can't serve the new address, you can end the contract without the early-termination fee, with proof of the move.
Hrvatska pošta forwards letters to the new address for 90 days, for 8 €; apply at a post office, as the online form isn't working at the moment. It doesn't forward court and official letters, so register the new address on time.
A household insurance policy is tied to the address, so tell your insurer the new one in writing. The Obligations Act (Art. 938) requires you to report an increase in risk without delay; whether a move is one depends on the policy (our reading). Tell your car insurer the new address too.
We found no law requiring you to tell your bank the new address, but banks' general terms often do. Also change the address for phone bills, subscriptions and deliveries.
Nothing to do: it updates itself
The old address is deregistered automatically
When you register a new permanent address, the police deregister the old one on their own. Registering a temporary address deregisters only the previous temporary one; your permanent address stays where it was.
The voter register updates itself
The police send the change of permanent address to the voter register. You can check your entry all year.
The Tax Administration gets the address automatically
The police send your new permanent address to the Tax Administration. You don't need to do anything for the address itself.
Doesn't change
Your passport doesn't change
A passport has no address on it, so a move doesn't change it.
Your driving licence doesn't change
A Croatian driving licence has no address field, so a move doesn't change it.
Ticks stay on this device only.
Checked 20 Oct 2026. Not legal advice: deadlines and prices can change, so for your case ask the office in charge.
Common questions
- How soon do I have to register a new address in Croatia?
- Croatian citizens register a permanent or temporary address within 15 days of moving in (Residence Act, Art. 4(1)). EEA citizens (EEA Citizens Act, Arts. 41 and 42) and non-EU nationals (Foreigners Act, Art. 178) have the same 15 days.
- Do I need a new ID card after moving in Croatia?
- Yes, if you changed your permanent address: the old card becomes invalid and you must apply for a new one within 15 days (ID Card Act, Art. 5). If you only register a temporary address, you don't need a new card.
- Do I need to change my driving licence and car registration after moving?
- Not the licence: a Croatian driving licence has no address. The registration, yes: the vehicle owner reports a change of the data on it within 15 days (Road Traffic Safety Act, Art. 250(5)).
