Zagreb in numbers

Zagreb uphill: how far your door is above the tram

From the tram to the door: in Šestinski dol half the addresses sit at least 62 m above their nearest stop, roughly like walking up to the 21st floor, while in 51 of 71 neighbourhoods there's hardly any climb. We worked out the ground height for 69,098 addresses within 1.5 km of a tram stop as the crow flies.

What it means when you're looking for a flat

Climb isn't distance. A flat 300 m from the stop with 40 m to climb can be harder going than one 600 m from the stop on the flat, with shopping, a pram or in winter. That's why neighbourhood pages near the tram show the median climb from the tram, and a listing with a stated street shows the climb for that street.

Common questions

Which Zagreb neighbourhoods sit highest above the tram?
By the median climb from the nearest tram stop: Šestinski dol (62 m), Pantovčak (48 m) and Remete (43 m). Half the addresses there sit higher than that, and half lower.
How is the climb from the tram worked out?
For every address in DGU's register (Addresses – INSPIRE, updated 18 Oct 2026) within 1.5 km of a ZET tram stop as the crow flies, we took the ground height from DGU's digital terrain model (Elevation – INSPIRE, 20 m grid, updated 26 Jan 2024) and subtracted the height of the nearest stop. That's the height to gain, not the route: the actual walk can be longer, and the floors of the building aren't counted. Each address was placed in a city district by its boundaries and in a neighbourhood by the nearest neighbourhood centre within that district. The median means half the addresses climb less and half more. A "floor" is a rough measure of 3 m. We downloaded the data on 20 Oct 2026.
