Neighbourhood guideDubecFamily houses along curving Dubečka, sculptors' streets and the end of the tram lineGornja Dubrava lies north-east of the city centre, between Maksimir to the west, Donja Dubrava to the south, Podsljeme to the north-west and Sesvete to the east. Long and narrow from north to south, it has two distinct parts: a flat, densely populated south below Oporovečka, and a hilly north on the eastern slopes of Medvednica, whose far end lies within Medvednica Nature Park. It became a city district in 1999, having previously been part of the Dubrava municipality.
The south is densely built up, mostly with family houses; blocks of flats are concentrated along Avenija Dubrava and in Klaka, Studentski grad and Poljanice. Building of Studentski grad began after the Second World War, and the Klaka and Poljanice estates followed in the 1970s and 1980s, when the family-house area of Trnovčica also grew. The north is made up of once separate villages such as Čučerje, Granešina, Miroševec, Oporovec and Novaki, set along the main roads that follow the valleys of the Trnava, Čučerska Reka and Branovec streams.
Dubrava Clinical Hospital is on Avenija Gojka Šuška, and the district also has Miroševac city cemetery. In Granešina, Grad mladih (formerly Pionirski grad), a wooded complex of some forty single-storey buildings for children's stays, opened in 1951 and has been a protected cultural monument since 2005. Trams come along Maksimirska cesta to the Dubrava terminus, and some lines carry on along Avenija Dubrava to Dubec.
