Tuškanac is a neighbourhood and local committee area on the slopes below Medvednica, north of Ilica and north-west of the Upper Town. It is known for the park-forest of the same name, one of the park-forests in the central part of the city. The 1887 regulatory plan banned building on the lower part of the area to preserve the woodland, and Tuškanac was planned as a low-density quarter of villas and summer houses.
Many of the houses date from the 1920s and 1930s, and a considerable number of the villas are protected as cultural heritage. Dubravkin put, a path through the woods, passes the Tuškanac summer stage, rebuilt to Kazimir Ostrogović's original 1950s design, and a statue of Miroslav Krleža stands where the path meets Tuškanac street. The neighbourhood also has a wooden pavilion made for an exhibition in 1891, now a protected monument, and a monument to Vladimir Nazor unveiled in 1972.
There are no trams in the neighbourhood; the nearest run along Ilica. City buses from Britanski trg run through Tuškanac on towards Cmrok, and one route continues via Cmrok and Jurjevska to Kaptol. The public underground car park at Tuškanac 1b, opened in 2008, also sells monthly passes, including discounted ones for residents.
