Ferenščica is part of Peščenica, in the south-east of the city, set between two major arterial roads: Ulica grada Vukovara to the north and Slavonska avenija to the south. Like the rest of the district, it is flat. Most of the neighbourhood was built after the Second World War. Eleven streets carry its name, I. to XI. Ferenščica, and II. Ferenščica alone has seven numbered side streets (odvojci).
The neighbourhood has the Augusta Cesarca primary school, on II. Ferenščica, and the main site of the Duga kindergarten, on I. Ferenščica. Across Ulica grada Vukovara lies Volovčica, with the Church of Blessed Augustin Kažotić at the junction with Ivanićgradska. The Borongaj campus, home to University of Zagreb faculties, lies to the north-east, and the southern part of the neighbourhood, along Slavonska avenija, is the northern edge of the Žitnjak business zone.
Trams along Ulica grada Vukovara link the neighbourhood with the city centre, stopping at Ivanićgradska, Ferenščica and Getaldićeva on its northern edge. The Žitnjak terminus is on the neighbourhood's eastern edge, and some lines carry on south from there, across Slavonska avenija, to the Savišće terminus.
Peščenica – Žitnjak district, census 2021: 53,023 people, 8.6% of households renting, 25.6% of flats empty. Empty flats by district
