What it's like to live in Mlinovi

Mlinovi is a small local council area in the Podsljeme district, set between Šestine, Gračani and Mihaljevac on the lower slopes of Medvednica. Together with Šestine, Gračani and Markuševec, it became part of Zagreb after the Second World War. The street that shares its name runs through it, north-west from Mihaljevac to Šestinski Kraljevec in Šestine, close to Šestine primary school on Podrebernica.

As elsewhere in Podsljeme, family houses make up most of the housing. The Kraljevec stream, the upper course of the Medveščak, runs through Mlinovi, which takes its name from the water mills that once worked on it. On the slopes the streets are linked in places by pedestrian stairways, such as the Lovćenske, Alanske, Troglavske, Biokovske and Snježničke stube.

The southern edge of Mlinovi meets Mihaljevac in the Upper Town – Medveščak district, whose tram and bus terminal also has a bus up to Sljeme. To the east, Gračanska cesta runs up through Gračani, where the Gračanske stube stop on the tram line to Gračansko Dolje is found. Buses between Britanski trg and Mihaljevac run via Tuškanac, Prekrižje and Šestine and then along Mlinovi street, stopping at Mlinovi gornji, Mlinovi and Snježničke stube.
