What it's like to live in Rudeš

Rudeš is on the western side of Trešnjevka – North, just north of Zagrebačka avenija. Three prehistoric stone axes found here show that people passed through the area in the earliest times. Rudeš appears in written records from the 13th century, under the Latin name Rodos. The village belonged to the estates of the Zagreb cathedral chapter (Kaptol) and stayed outside the city limits until 1945. The old village itself is gone, but its name lives on in Rudeška cesta, Rudeški odvojak and Rudeški ogranci.

The ground is flat, and the parish church of St Anne, built in 1966–67, stands among closely packed low-rise family houses. Rudeška cesta has the Rudeš sports and recreation centre and the Rudeš sports hall, Rudeš Primary School is on Jablanska ulica, and there is a Zagreb West health centre surgery on Anina ulica. The football club NK Rudeš comes from the neighbourhood.

On Zagrebačka avenija, near the junction with Zagrebačka cesta, stands Sky Office, a pair of office towers completed in 2012. No tram runs through Rudeš, so buses link it with the rest of the city; the nearest tram stops are south of the avenue on Horvaćanska cesta, and at the Ljubljanica terminus to the east.
