Šalata is a neighbourhood on the slopes of Medvednica, north of Vlaška, in the Upper Town – Medveščak district. It is home to the ŠRC Šalata sports centre, with swimming pools, tennis courts and an ice rink. The School of Medicine, founded in 1917, is based at Šalata 3 and has several buildings along the street, housing its dean's office, its basic-science departments and some of its preclinical ones. One of the sites of the University Hospital Centre Zagreb (KBC Zagreb), where part of the clinical teaching takes place, is also on Šalata.
In the northern part of the neighbourhood, at Rockefellerova 4, is the Andrija Štampar School of Public Health, also part of the School of Medicine. At Voćarska cesta 106 the Interdiocesan Boys' Seminary and the Archdiocesan Classical Gymnasium share one complex, and the Church of the Sacred Heart is on the same street. A building at Mesićeva 35 houses the 18th Gymnasium and Ivan Goran Kovačić Primary School.
Šalata sits on a slope, so some of its streets are in fact flights of steps, such as Ljubinkovac and Svibovac. Trams run along Medveščak on the western edge of the neighbourhood and along Draškovićeva and Vlaška at the foot of the hill.
Upper Town – Medveščak district, census 2021: 26,423 people, 7.0% of households renting, 26.2% of flats empty. Empty flats by district
